Deputy James Waygood was killed in an traffic accident while on patrol.

Deputy Waygood was the passenger in a radio car that was responding to a call for assistance at a fight at Hooper Avenue Elementary School. A drunk driver in a Cadillac ran a red light and collided with the speeding radio car. The drunk driver was also killed, however, the driver of the radio car survived.

Deputy Waygood had served with the agency for two and a half years.
