SRA Executive Director Job Posting

JOB POSTING
SRA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
(Formerly General Manager)

The Sheriffs’ Relief Association is a 102-year-old, benevolent organization serving members within the LASD. The original purpose of SRA was to address the needs of members during times of personal crisis, and has expanded to provide a variety of services to its members, including uniform sales, loans, grants, mortuary benefits, and many other services.
To accomplish it’s mission, the Association is comprised of four distinct entities: a 501(C)(3) charitable foundation, the Association (membership), a loan company, and retail sales through two emporiums, and soon to be on-line sales.

Currently, the Sheriffs’ Relief Foundation has 20,000+ members, and approximately 25 full and part-time employees who perform the functions necessary to meet those members’ needs, and fulfill all statutory regulations related to the four entities. Historically, SRA has employed a General Manager (hereafter Executive Director) to oversee operations and supervise employees.

The Sheriffs’ Relief Association is governed by a Board of Trustees, who are elected from, and by, the membership. It is the duty of the “…Board of Trustees to conduct, manage, govern, execute and administer all the affairs of the Association…”. Additionally, the Board hires and supervises the Executive Director and all employees, to ensure all duties are properly performed, ensure compliance with all applicable laws and maintain fiscal solvency.

As a small company, SRA does not have in-house specialists for financial, legal and technology needs. However, SRA contracts with multiple companies to ensure complete compliance with all it’s statutory and financial obligations. The Executive Director and staff are responsible for interacting with these companies on a frequent basis.

The role of Executive Director for the Sheriff’s Relief Association will be familiar to anyone, sworn or professional staff, who has held a manager/director/executive level position in the LASD. The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • First and foremost, explore opportunities to expand the welfare of the organization, its members, and staff.
  • Manage the day-to-day performance and functions of staff.
  • Interact with the Board of Trustees on all issues related to the organization.
  • Interact with outside entities who have or provide business to SRA.
  • The Executive Director attends all monthly Board Meetings, and represents SRA at many functions, including new hire orientations, graduations etc.
