The Sheriffs’ Relief Foundationis a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization and has thus been designated as the prime official organization to accept donations for those recruits injured in this tragic event. As an organization, we are already setup to handle such large incidents such as this. Many of you have inquired as to what are the protocols for distributing these funds.
That is an excellent question, and the answer is simple. We meet on a regular basis with the Academy administration and staff, and they determine who has the greatest need for funding at that time and they distribute the funds according to need. There is no organization on the Sheriff’s Department that has a better understanding of who needs what and when than those who have worked on a daily basis with these recruits, so rest assured that the funding you provide is going exactly where it is most needed.
